draughtproof qld

Stop the draught.

Fixed silicone weatherstrip seals for timber doors and windows, old homes and new, we close the gap.

Non-adhesive - professionally fitted - made to last.

Fitted bulb seal on a timber door. No glue. Groove in the existing joinery.

The problem

Old or new. The gap still leaks.

Older Queensland homes were made for airflow - high ceilings, vents in the brickwork, cross-ventilation through every gap in the joinery. New timber doors and windows leak the same way.

Those same gaps now dump the air you pay to cool. Wind and rain finds its way in. Dust, noise and bugs follow.

Replacing the windows isn’t always possible, and on heritage places it often isn’t allowed. You don’t need new joinery. You need the gap closed.

Why no adhesive

Glue fails on timber. A groove doesn’t.

Stick-on seals don’t last here. Timber moves with the seasons. The glue dries out. The seal peels, and when it finally lets go it leaves a sticky mess that’s a pain to clean.

Our bulb seal pushes into a routed groove. No glue at all. It comes out clean, goes back in clean, and lasts the life of the door.

The method

Route. Press. Seal.

We cut a clean kerf into the frame, then press in a true hollow silicone bulb matched to that groove. The exterior of the house doesn’t change.

  1. 01

    Route

We use a dedicated router that cuts a precise groove into the existing frame.

  2. 02

    Press

The hollow silicone bulb pushes into the kerf. No adhesive. No mess. It fits into the groove and stays put.

  3. 03

    Seal

The bulb compresses fully against the door. Draughts, dust, noise and rain stay out.

Why us

A specialist trade. Not a sticky strip.

No one else is doing this

We route a groove into the corner of the frame and press in a silicone bulb seal. It closes the gap properly, stays almost invisible, and stops your cooled or heated air escaping. Sticky strips fail. This doesn’t. And right now, nobody else in Australia is installing them this way.

Improve your home’s energy efficiency

Gaps around doors and windows allow conditioned air to escape, forcing your air-conditioning or heating system to work harder. In Brisbane’s climate this increases energy costs and lets humid outdoor air enter the home.

A professionally installed silicone bulb seal closes these gaps effectively. Conditioned air remains inside, the system operates more efficiently, and overall comfort improves. Reducing air leakage also helps limit moisture ingress that can contribute to mould growth.

A straightforward upgrade that delivers measurable efficiency gains without altering the appearance of your doors or windows.

Heritage-safe

The exterior stays untouched. Door removal and refit where needed. We work the frame, not the look of the house. All heritage work is done with council approval.

Questions

Before you call.

How much does this cost?

Our standard pricing is $30 per metre, depending on the complexity of the job.

To give you an idea, a standard Australian door is approximately 2.04m high × 0.82m wide. Sealing the top and sides typically requires around 5 metres, equivalent to approximately $150 at our standard rate, before minimum charges.

Only need a smaller area sealed? A minimum charge equivalent to 10 metres applies per booking, even if your project requires less.

Payment is collected on the day of the installation.

How long do the bulb seals last?

The seals last a minimum of ten to fifteen years, depending on UV exposure and usage. Maximum lifespan is up to thirty years.

Can I replace the bulb seals?

Bulb seals are easily replaceable. Pull the old seal and insert a new one into the slot.

Will it damage the joinery?

The short answer is no. We route a 3 millimetre groove into the corner of the frame. Frames and doors can be restored by filling the gap, sanding down and repainting.

Do I need to clear the space?

Clearing ornaments and light items near the frames helps us work faster. Heavy furniture that needs shifting is on you to arrange before we arrive. If you’re elderly or disabled, let us know and our installers will help.

Do we remove the doors and windows?

In some cases, yes. Our installers work with the door or window in place where possible, but if removal gives a better result or the frame needs full access, we’ll take it off and reinstall it properly.

How long does the job take?

Installation is typically quick and straightforward, with most jobs completed in a single visit and minimal disruption to your day. The time required will depend on the size and complexity of the project.

Does it create noise and dust?

There will be noise while the installers route the frames. Dust is kept to a minimum. The installers use a vacuum to collect it.
